Gretchen Petterway was born and raised in Mansfield, Louisiana. She attended Mansfield High School and Grambling State University for college. Her desire to become a doctor was initially sparked in her early childhood when caring for her elderly aunt. Dr. Petterway attended medical school at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-Shreveport. While growing up, there was no pediatrician in her hometown, so she had no prior experience with pediatrics until her 3rd-year clinical rotations. She immediately fell in love and knew she wanted to become a pediatrician. After graduating in 2006, she stayed at LSUHSC-5 to complete her pediatric residency training in 2009
Gretchen is affectionately referred to as Dr.G Dr. Pepper, and Dr. Gretchen by her patients. She has practiced for over 13 years in North Louisiana and recently joined Mid City Pediatrics in April 2021. As a Doc-Mom, she is passionate about engaging her families as a physician and a mom. Pediatrics is her calling, and she’s grateful to serve her patients in a special way.
Dr. Petterway is married to Felton and has two sons. Gretchen and her family are members of Word of God Ministries in Shreveport, LA. She enjoys spending free time with her family, motivational speaking, and writing. She shares her prior struggles with low self-esteem and Adverse Childhood Experiences. She loves to motivate and assist children and teens in developing their inner champions. She is the author of a children’s book series, with the first, I Am Cool, released in March 2019. I Am Cool reminds children that they are fantastic just the way they are.
